The beach

Why Pinarello stands apart

The Pinarello Bay is a crescent of white sand nearly a mile and a half long, closed off to the north by a rocky headland and facing the little island of Pinarello, crowned by its Genoese tower. The water is a very pale turquoise, because the bottom is fine sand for several dozen metres out.

The bay is sheltered from the prevailing westerlies, which makes for calm water in the morning, perfect for paddleboarding, kayaking or a first windsurfing lesson. The wind often picks up in the early afternoon, to the delight of windsurfers.

What you will find there

  • Several beach bars and restaurants right by the water, from a simple sandwich to a proper fish dinner.
  • Paddleboard, kayak and catamaran hire and licence-free boats in season.
  • Car parks along the road, free at the north end, paid in the middle in August.
  • Showers and toilets in the central section.

In the evening, the northern headland offers one of the finest views in the area of the sun setting behind the mountains.

The island

The island and its Genoese tower

Two hundred metres offshore, the island of Pinarello bears a Genoese tower from the 16th century, built to watch for Barbary raids. You reach it by paddleboard or kayak in calm seas — about twenty minutes of paddling, best done in the morning when the water is glassy.

  • Reachable only from the sea, by paddle or small boat
  • Anchoring possible on the sheltered side
  • Good snorkelling along the rocky drop-offs
  • Land with care: the rocks are slippery

The island is a protected natural site: leave nothing behind and keep away from the nesting areas early in the season.

The right time to go

In July and August, arrive before 10.30 am or after 5 pm: the beach is huge but the central car parks fill up in the middle of the day. Those at the north end of the bay stay easier and open onto the quietest stretch.

In June and September the beach is largely clear all day and the water is 23-25 °C.

Frequently asked questions

Pinarello in practice

How long does it take to reach Pinarello from Villa La Testa?
Pinarello Bay is 7 km from the villa, about a 10-minute drive, along the coast road from Sainte-Lucie de Porto-Vecchio.
Is Pinarello beach good for children?
Yes. The slope is very gentle for several dozen metres, the bottom is sandy and the bay is sheltered from westerly winds, so the water stays calm, especially in the morning.
Can you get across to Pinarello island?
Yes, by paddleboard or kayak in calm seas: a crossing of about 200 metres. You land on rocks, so take care and never go alone.
Are there restaurants on Pinarello beach?
Several beach bars and restaurants open from April-May to September-October, from a simple sharing board to a fish dinner. In August, booking is strongly advised.
