Getting your bearings

A base that is ideally placed

Villa La Testa stands on the heights above Sainte-Lucie de Porto-Vecchio, on the east coast of Corse-du-Sud. It is a pivotal spot: a five-minute walk from a beach, ten minutes from Pinarello Bay, twenty-five minutes from Porto-Vecchio and an hour from the Bavella Needles.

In practice that means you can spend the morning in the water, have lunch in a mountain village and come back for a swim in the pool before dinner — without spending the day in the car, which is the main pitfall of a Corsican holiday.

Four different worlds, each a day trip away

  • The southern beaches — Palombaggia, Santa Giulia, Rondinara: 30 to 45 minutes.
  • The mountains — Bavella, Ospedale, the Piscia di Gallo waterfalls: 45 min to 1 h 15.
  • The Alta Rocca villages — Zonza, Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano, Levie: 1 h.
  • Bonifacio and the Lavezzi islands — a 1 h 10 drive, then a boat.

Frequently asked questions

The region in practice

Do I need a car to stay at the villa?
Yes, a car is essential. The village beach is within walking distance, but every other destination — Porto-Vecchio, Pinarello, Bavella — needs a vehicle. Allow one or two cars for 14 people.
When is the best time to come to South Corsica?
June and September strike the best balance: a sea at 23-25 °C, moderate crowds and every shop open. July and August are very busy; May and October suit hiking and exploring the villages.
Can you swim outside July and August?
Yes. The sea reaches 20 °C by late May and stays around 22 °C until mid-October on the east coast, which is better sheltered than the west.
Are there shops near the villa?
Sainte-Lucie de Porto-Vecchio, five minutes away, has a mini-market, a bakery, a pharmacy, a tobacconist and several restaurants. A larger supermarket sits at the entrance to Porto-Vecchio.
